Project Overview

IP intercom and network call system built on an in-house audio protocol. The device side runs on a low-cost ESP8266, proving that real-time voice intercom is achievable on entry-level hardware; supports point-to-point calls and multi-party intercom.

Technical Challenges

Achieving low-latency, usable voice intercom on hardware as constrained as the ESP8266.

Solution

In-house audio transport protocol rather than an off-the-shelf stack; ESP8266 on the device side handles audio capture, encoding and network transmission; point-to-point and multi-party intercom.
